In recent years, a powerful movement has begun to sweep through the body of Christ. Men and women are standing up, often at great personal and social cost, to denounce their affiliations with the Divine Nine (D9) and other secret societies. For many, these organizations—fraternities and sororities like Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, and others—are seen as pillars of the community. But beneath the surface of “service” and “sisterhood” lies a spiritual conflict that many believers are only now beginning to confront. The conversation around secret societies is no longer a quiet one. As more people share their testimonies of deliverance, a clear message is emerging: Jesus will never be second fiddle to anyone or anything. You cannot serve the King of Kings while maintaining a blood covenant or a secret oath to a Greek deity. If you have ever wondered about the spiritual implications of these organizations, it is time to look at the truth behind the veil. The Red Flag of Secrecy and the Problem with “Closet Repentance”One of the most immediate red flags in any organization is the requirement of a secret oath. In the Kingdom of God, everything is brought into the light. Yet, in these societies, members are often forced to take oaths within the confines of secrecy.
If an agreement requires you to hide its details from the world, it is a spiritual warning sign. Furthermore, there is a dangerous trend among believers who think they can repent for these affiliations in private. If you have lived your life “outside” and openly affiliated with these groups, your repentance should be just as visible. In a court of law, there is a term called allocution. When you take a plea, you must state exactly what your role was in the crime. Similarly, true repentance involves a public turning away from the things that were done openly. You cannot repent in secret for sins that were committed in the streets. The Divine Nine: Greek Gods in Disguise? Many members of the Divine Nine argue that their organizations are built on Christian principles or that they are “Christian sororities.” However, a deeper look at the rituals and symbols reveals a different story. Each of these organizations is tied to a Greek deity, which, from a biblical perspective, is a demon in disguise.
The origins of these black secret societies are often rooted in Freemasonry and the Illuminati. Interestingly, the founders of many of these organizations were influenced by white occultist structures that have nothing to do with the Black experience or the Christian faith. There is a fundamental disconnect: nothing Greek and Black goes together in the context of the Kingdom. The ancient Greeks, such as Caligula, were known for perversion and practices that stand in direct opposition to biblical morality. The “Good Works” Deception. The most common defense for staying in a sorority or fraternity is the “good work” they do for the community. They feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and provide scholarships. While these are noble actions, the question remains: Do you need a sorority to do what Jesus already commanded? Jesus told us to feed the widows and the orphans. He gave us the Great Commission. Using “good work” as an excuse to remain in a demonic covenant is a ploy to get people to accept something spiritually toxic. If the foundation of the house is built on an idol, no amount of charity on the front porch can save the structure. The Dark Reality of Pledging and Hazing
The process of joining these organizations often involves “pledging,” which frequently crosses the line into abuse and degradation. Testimonies from those who have come out describe horrific rituals, including being forced to consume filth or excrement. Being blindfolded and physically abused. Sexual degradation and hazing that leave initiates in the hospital. Being told to hide the identity of those who harmed them. Why would a believer want to join anything that requires them to be beaten, abused, or degraded to “belong”? The Bible tells us to flee fornication and to treat our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Yet, many of these organizations encourage the very behaviors that the scripture warns us against. There is no “God” in a ritual that strips a human being of their dignity. The Spiritual and Physical Consequences of the Covenant
As a deliverance minister, you begin to see the physical manifestations of spiritual choices. When you make a covenant with a Greek letter or a deity, you are opening a door to the enemy. These are not just social clubs; they are spiritual contracts. There have been documented cases of “generational tokens” or curses manifesting in the lives of members and their children. For example: Birth Defects: Instances where children are born with physical anomalies that mirror the signs and symbols of the parents’ fraternity or sorority.Gynecological Issues: Many women in these organizations struggle with barrenness or chronic health issues that align with the specific “deities” they pledged to.Idolatry: Placing the organization above God in hopes of career advancement or social status.
Many join because they want a “favorable position” in a company or a seat at the table. But if God didn’t give you the position, you shouldn’t want it. If your faith is strong, God will put you in places you aren’t even qualified for, without you having to bow to an idol to get there. Overcoming the “Deficit of Wholeness”: Why do people join these groups in the first place? Often, it is because of a deficit of wholeness. Humans have an innate desire to belong, to be part of the “in crowd.” Secret societies prey on this need, reeling people in with the promise of brotherhood or sisterhood while simultaneously bullying and abusing them. This same deficit is seen in the church when people struggle with “strongholds.” A stronghold is a sin that you feel you have no control over—something that makes you feel like God will never forgive you. Many people in the church are “filled with the Holy Ghost” but are still bound by secret sins because they haven’t been taught how to walk through deliverance.
Key Takeaways for Spiritual Freedom: Renounce the Covenant: If you are a member of a secret society, you must formally and spiritually renounce the oaths you took. Seek Deliverance: Understand that salvation is a process. Being “saved” doesn’t mean you don’t have strongholds that need to be broken. Choose God Over Status: No career connection or social network is worth your spiritual inheritance. Walk in the Light: Stop practicing “closet repentance.” Be honest about your past so that your testimony can help others.
Conclusion: A Call to Come Out. God is calling His people to a higher standard of holiness. For over a hundred years, these organizations have existed within the church, but the Lord is saying, “I have had enough.” He is calling men and women of God to come out of these secret societies because judgment is coming to these structures. If your heart is pricked today, do not ignore it. There is no shame in admitting you were deceived, but there is great danger in staying where you don’t belong. You were made for the Kingdom of God, not a Greek letter. It is time to choose whom you will serve.
