I thought about how the first choice of a King for Israel was the peoples choice, which led King Saul to his downfall to disobey God for  people pleasing.

1 Sam 8: 7 stood out to me as well, as God responsed to Samuel "For the people have not rejected you,  but they had rejected me, that I should not rule over them".

Even when Samuel warned them regarding the consequences of having a King, the children of Israel still refused to obey the voice of Samuel.  Disobedience was running rampant.
