Weapon of the Week

A banner with the words " spiritual warfare " in front of it.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10

And take up the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God; Ephesians 6:17

Fun Facts: The sword mentioned in Ephesians 6:17 is “machaira” pronounced makh’-ahee-rah in greek this type of sword was used for killing animals and cutting up flesh, may be curved for a cutting stroke or straight forward for thrusting stroke. Also used for close contact with the enemy.

Encouragement

The bible talks about many weapons that God uses to battle our enemies but we as believers have been given the bible as our weapon. The scriptures say that the sword (weapon) of the spirit in Ephesians 6:17, is the word of God. In addition Chapter 6:12, also mentions that our enemies are spiritual beings in the unseen realm. Therefore we must fight in the spirit by means of the scriptures.

Make a habit of learning scriptures in your Christian living. Yeshua (Jesus) quoted scripture 3 times to Satan in Mathew 4, during his temptation after his long fast. At no point did Yeshua ever use his own logic or his own words to fight that temptation. Likewise we ought to follow Yeshua’s example and quote the word when necessary especially during times of Prayer, Spiritual warfare, Deliverance and Temptations. For too long the body of Messiah has failed to put the word in their hearts as it was intended to be.

Take some time to learn this verse, learn it as a family, put it as a cell phone screen saver or background, write it on a index card or a mirror that you see daily. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you hide the word in your heart. The goal is that by the end of one year you can have a good bank or memory verses to use that the Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance at a time of need.

No weapon formed against you (me) shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you (me) in judgment You (I) shall condemn. Isaiah 54:17

For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. Psalms 91:11

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
